Sindh Government Announces Public Holiday on Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar
According to a formal notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD), Government of Sindh, all provincial government offices, autonomous bodies, and educational institutions will remain closed across Sindh on the specified date.
Public and Educational Institutions to Remain Closed
As per the notification, the following will observe the public holiday:
- Sindh provincial government offices
- Semi-government and autonomous bodies
- Public and private educational institutions
- Colleges, universities, and schools under the Sindh administration
- Check Sindh School Timing During Ramadan 2026
This holiday is declared to facilitate devotees and ensure smooth observance of the Urs activities in Sehwan Sharif and other parts of Sindh.
About Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA)
Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA), also known as Usman Marwandi, was a renowned 13th-century Sufi saint, scholar, and poet. He was born in Marwand (present-day Afghanistan/Iran region) and later migrated to Sindh, where he spent most of his life.
His shrine in Sehwan Sharif, Sindh, is one of the most visited spiritual sites in Pakistan. Millions of devotees attend his Urs every year to participate in spiritual gatherings, dhamal, and religious ceremonies.
